Speed Bumps
Found some useful tools lately to speed things up on my end:
- Opendns – for a safer, faster and smarter internet. I have configured both naga.gov and techtribe to point to their DNS servers.
- Swiftfox – an optimized Mozilla Firefox build for Linux.
- Ubuntu system tweaks via automatix
Speed bumps indeed!
Ituloy AngSulong
SeoPhilippines, a local organization dedicated to the growth of the search marketing industry in the Philippines, is sponsoring yet another contest dubbed as “Ituloy Angsulong – The P300,000 SEO Contest“.
I’m actually just a silent member of the group, hehe! Im a lurker. Anyhow, I wasn’t able to join the first one (Isulong SeoPH) so this time I’m joining this contest. It’s not because of the prize at stake, I just want to learn some SEO techniques and have fun in the process.
My entry is at Ituloy AngSulong. Im in dire need of some link love
Anyone please?
Ituloy AngSulong! Ihinto Ang Urong!
Naga.gov did it Again!
“This is actually the third straight win for Naga City, having bagged the same award in the past two contests, thereby making it eligible for the eLGU Web Hall of Fame. “

Pinoy Ubunteros
I joined Ubuntu Philippines Team just recently and I was inspired to know that there are already bicolanos on the team (Zak and Irvin), both are actively involved in advocating Ubuntu and FOSS in general. I also was able to meet other Ubunteros from different parts of the archipelago virtually via irc.freenode.net’s #ubuntu-ph channel.
The team is still small, only a handful of volunteers but it’s great to know that they’re doing their share to advance FOSS in the country.
I hope I could also contribute something for the team. Im planning to write some mini howtos, tutorials and other useful content which are needed for the newly-revamped site.
More updates soon…
On Open-Source & SFD Bicol
I was able to attend SFD Bicol yesterday at AUL with bossing dune and nhile. We came rather late as our bus moved in myterious ways
The event was participated mostly by students from Legazpi schools. It’s co-sponsored by BiOS where I’m a member of.
Anyhow, I actually liked the theme: Bicol: Towards Open Source Country and I’m one with making this vision a reality in our place. Why not? Let’s do it slowly one at a time.
Im thinking of organizing (not leading
, if only I have a lot of time to spare) a local group here in Naga City, BiOS Naga Chapter. What saith you? Calling all free/open-source advocates out there – let’s get organize!
Links Galore
I wasn’t able to post more often as I expected. Anyway, I will just post links for now, links that I found useful these past few days:
- Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (aka Dapper Drake) was released June 1 including the new server edition.
- IEs4Linux – running MS Internet Explorer on Linux via Wine. Very useful especially when I need to debug IE-centric web-apps problems.
- Google Earth for Linux – after Picasa, Google Earth is now also available in Linux systems. Isn’t it sweet?
- Isulong SEOph – the latest seo craze in town! I wanted to join but i don’t think I can stand against the mighty SEO veterans out there.
